A (Removable) Cup Holder for Any Chair

The only thing better than relaxing outside on a hot day is relaxing outside on a hot day with a cold drink. But what happens when you want to put your drink down? I've suffered too much heartbreak from unsteady surfaces seemingly conspiring to spill my drink to put it on the ground and sadly, not every chair has a cup holder. The solution; a quick and simple-to-make removable cup holder that works with nearly any chair.

- Tin can

- 2 zip ties

- 2" C-clamp

- Roughly 3/4" thick foam (optional)

- Utility knife

- Hammer & nail

- Place the C-clamp near the edge of the can. I placed mine roughly a 1/2" in from the edge.

- Make two marks about an inch apart on either side of the clamp.

- Use the nail to punch holes through each of the marks.

- Use the zip ties to attach the clamp to the bottom of the can. If you usually hold your drink in your right hand, position the clamp like I did in image 3. This way, when you attach the cup holder to the right side of a chair the shaft won't poke you.

- Make sure the zip ties are as tight as possible; you don't want the clamp to have any wiggle room.

- If you have any foam, cut out a rough circle that will fit inside the tin can. This will make the bottom of your cup holder more uniform, and will prop up canned drinks so they're easier to remove.

*Note: it's probably a good idea to put felt or something else soft on the jaws of the clamp to protect your chair.
