A Multi-functional Office Supply Holder

final in desk.png

My name is Maddie and I made a multi-functional office supply organizer for my mother. Her desk was very unorganized and I thought I could make her a costume organizer to fit her exact needs. There is a compartment for pens and pencils, one for post-its, and one for miscellaneous things like paper clips, rubber bands, etc.

Supplies

for my first prototype I used:

  • card board
  • a ruler
  • duct tape

for my second prototype I used:

  • my computer
  • tinker cad
  • a 3D printer

Talking to My Client

First, I had to speak to my client and understand exactly what she wanted from this project. I figured out her ideal dimension, what she would be storing in it, where it was being put, etc.

Made My First Prototype

I made my first prototype out of carb board to figure out dimensions and sizing.

Make It on Tinkercad

Next, I used tinker cad to make a prototype that I could transfer into the 3D printer. You simply drag and adjust the shapes and then match up the measurements.

Printed My 2nd Prototype

I used tinker cad to make it, but I shrunk it down to about 1/3 of its size as to not waste plastic. Once I was happy with the design in tinker cad, I download it as a stl file and transferred it to PrusaSlicer. This gave me a good idea of what the final would look like and helped me discover some gaps that I needed to fix.

Printed My Final Project

After seeing my 2nd prototype, I fixed the gaps and issues. I then put it back to its intended dimensions and printed it. After I was done, I put my moms things into and cleared up a bunch of space on her desk!
