A Beijing Girl Build a Yurt in Beijing As Her Home

In Beijing, house renting counts a big part

of daily consumption for the people who are not local of Beijing.

A girl~we call her “yurt girl”, build a yurt herself as her house, till now she’s living there for one year.

As we all know in Beijing old Hutong, the minimum cost for renting a house is CNY3000 per month that does not include agency cost. A white-collar worker can earn CNY5000 per month. That kind of house may does not even have a private bathroom.

“Yurt girl” wanna move out from her tiny bedroom, but she does not know where she could afford to live.

Exactly, one of her friends pointed at the
balcony and in joke said: “why not build a yurt here?”. Several days later, “yurt girl” really build a yurt there.

At the beginning, “yurt girl” found “Mongolia yurt”. All yurt structure are wooden, felt and canvas cover. She choose the smallest model 3.5meters diameter which costs her CNY7000. After she placed the order, she starts busy building her deck for yurt.(Following photo is the ground where she planned to build the deck)

Several days later, “yurt girl” received her yurt packages.

Build a yurt is siple, just erect the
lattice wall, tie the rafters on and put rafter inside the central ring. Then cover on the felt cover, cover the outer canvas

After finishing yurt building, “yurt girl”
move in her yurt. Several days later, Beijing starts snow heavily. Her friend are very worry about her yurt, they even imagine the next morning they could only see a totally broken yurt.

While it turns out that the yurt stands stable, even did not move, only with a new snow cover. Check the inside yurt, no leakage. Following is a photo which shows the yurt stand by after big snow~what a romantic view.
