70s Style Table Lamp
Please enjoy my printable 3D model for a 70s style table lamp.
Hi there,
In this post I have included 4 STL files that together make up the 70s style table lamp shown in the pictures. Also I will go about the steps required to print and assemble it.
At the end of this Instructable, there is an additional paragraph showing you a way to design such a lamp. Reading this extra paragraph will teach you to improve my design and create a better one.
When done, and when you´ve improved my lamp, please send me some photographs. So in return I can learn from you. Thank you.

Attention: A home-printed lamp-socket is used in this build.
In this instructable, a home-printed lamp-socket will be wired and connected to the main power grid. When doing this incorrectly, you risk short-cutting the power, blowing a fuse, blowing the lamp, socket or worse.....yourself. So please be carefull and only DIY when you know your way around electronics.
Supplies
To use the files:
- A computer running Ultimaker Cura (if you only want to print the files)
- A computer running Blender and Ultimaker Cura (if you want to print and edit the files\change the meshes)
To print the 4 components (meshes) of the lamp:
- 3D printer (Creality CR6 used in the pictures)
- PLA (colour of choice)
To make a lamp out of it:
- some wires
- a switch
- a power-plug
- solder and soldering-iron
- glue
Download STL Files - Open in Cura - Slice and Save

Please download these files and store them on you computer.
These 4 files need to be 'sliced' on your computer in order to get a printable file for your own 3D printer. Only then they can be printed. 'Slicing' is method to change objects (meshes) into a pattern that can be drawn in layers by a 3D-printer (lines in XYZ coords). Ultimaker Cura is a program that can do slicing.
You can download Cura here. After installing Cura, please change default settings to fit your own 3D printer.
Now you are ready to open the first STL file and slice it.
After slicing you're asked to save the result to disk or a SD card. Then use the interface on your 3D-printer to print the file. As you can see in one of the pictures....printing can take some time.
Print Files
Now your are to print the generated files on your own 3D printer.
Assemble Components
First, create the wired socket as shown in image 1..4.
Then, glue the socket onto the lampshade, and the lampshade onto the lamp-frame.
Then wire the switch and power plug.
Finally glue in place the bottom plate.
Sit Down, Relax and Enjoy Your Work.
Additional Paragraph: Designing the Lamp in Blender
So, you want to design your own lamp?
Here's how I created the lampshade
- download and install Blender https://www.blender.org/
- Aftsr installing, open Blender. Start with the default scene.
- Delete the default Cube
- Add an IcoSphere
- Go to the modifiers tab
- Add a Remesh modifier, set it to Voxel, set Voxel size to 0.2m, adaptivity to 0.2m and enable Smooth Shading
- Add a Wireframe modifier and a subdivision modifier
- Add a Solidify modifier and set offset to 0 and thickness to .05m
- Apply modifiers
- Do some additional editing and sculpting
- Then export the selected object as STL file.
