7 Strand Challah Braid

I learned this with one simple online tutorial, and I think everyone can too!

Strands

Separate the dough into 7 equal strands. This might take more than one try, but you can always grab a little nugget from a fatter piece to add to a more skimpy one... Play around until you have what you need!

Join

Lay the strands parallel to each other, grab the ends on one side and bunch them up to form the "butt" of the challah. Leave the rest of the strands sprawled out on the table.

*Pro tip: While you're doing this, make sure to cover the work surface with lots of additional flour to prevent the dough from sticking!

Start with the outermost strand on the left side of the challah. Pick it up over the adjacent strand, and pass it under the following two strands. If you were to label each strand aphlabetically, the order would change from

to

B C D A E F G

Next, grab the outermost strand on the right side and repeat: over one and under two.

Continue this motion switching sides until you've reached the bottom.
