6 Ideas to Recycle Old Bottles

In this instructable, I will share 6 ideas to reuse/ recycle / up-cycle old bottles. You can enjoy making these with your kids... simple and beautiful

Recycle Idea 1 : Fairy Jar Lamp

This is one of commonly recycling methods.

Material

  • A glass jar
  • Tissue paper
  • PVA glue or fevicol
  • Sparkle dust
  • Fairy silhouette

Steps

  • Mix 1:1 Glue and water in a bowl
  • Stick plain white tissue paper on a glass jar using this glue mixture
  • Set to dry for 5 to 6 hours
  • Add another layer of tissue paper if needed
  • Cut fairy silhouette and stick it from inside the jar
  • Add tree, stars etc using sparkle dust
  • Add a Tea light inside and We are done
  • Optional : cover the neck of jar with jute string

Recycle Idea 2: Cherry Blossom Tree

Material

  • Glass bottle
  • Black permanent marker - Thick and thin
  • Glass stain paint - pink and red
  • Fairy / led lights
  • Cotton ear buds

Steps

  • Remove any labels from the bottle
    • Soak the bottle in hot water for 2 hrs
    • Then peal then label gently using a scrubber
  • Using thick marker, draw the main steam and branches
  • Using thin marker draw smaller branches
  • Dip the cotton ear bud in glass stain paint and pink mark dots on the tree
  • Mark some red dots aswell
  • Add LED copper string lights and we are done
  • Optionally : Add Deer, grass and a house using different markers

Recycle Idea 3: String Lamp

Material

  • Old plastic bottle
  • Colored threads
  • Jute threads
  • PVA glue / fevicol
  • Led Bulb

Steps

  • Remove any labels and clean the bottle surface
  • Cut the bottle to appropriate length
  • Always start from the neck, apply pva glue on the neck
  • Wind the tread around the tapered neck gently, let it dry for few minutes
  • Transition gently to wards the larger base
  • Mix different colored threads to achieve required effect
  • Add led bulb and hang it on wall or LED tea lights and place on your shelf

Recycle Idea 4 : Frosted Bottles

Material

  • Frosted Glass bottle
  • Permanent marker
  • LED string lights

Steps

  • Clean the bottle label
  • If your bottle is not frosted, then use 120 grit sandpaper to get the frosted appearance
    • While sanding glass bottles wear respiratory and eye protective gear
    • Sand bottle under water, to avoid glass dust
  • Draw Eiffel tower using a black marker pen
  • Add led light and we are done
  • Optional : One can do Bat logo or any other silhouette on the bottle and stick it from outside

Recycling Idea 5 : Textured Bottles

Material

  • LED String lights
  • Textured glass bottle - I used Old Monk rum bottle

Steps

  • Clean the bottle from outside and remove any labels
  • Insert the led string lights and we are done
  • Optionally: we could use glass stain paints and color the bottle to get a mosaic effect

Recycling Idea 6 : Painted Bottles

Material

  • Glass bottle
  • Glass stain paints
  • Black marker

Steps

  • Clean the bottle and remove any labels
  • Draw borders / design using a black marker
  • Using black / golden out-liner redraw the design
  • Fill the each space with same or different glass paints
  • Donot use brush !!!
  • Set to dry
  • Cover the glass surface with clear coat for protection
