5 Main Trees, Look-alikes, and What to Use Them For.
Imagine yourself in the wilderness, barely alive, when you remember something you learned long ago. Today I will tell you about the three best trees when it comes to, survival, and projects in your backyard!
Supplies
Binoculars. (Optional)
The 5 Trees
If you want to find some trees, you're going to need to know which trees you're looking for. The trees I think you will need the most are, white and red pine, white and red oak, and maple. You're going to need binoculars to identify the leaves if they are too high. We are going to identify what tree it is by looking at the bark and leaves!
White & Red Pines
Pines are the hardest trees to identify, because their bark and needles practically look the same! The only way to identify white pine is their needles are softer and the pine cones are longer than red pine. The ways to identify the red pines is that the needles are sharper at the tips and the pine cones are shorter and stouter. Now lets talk about the medicinal values of the white pine, first of all, the white pine needles can be boiled into a Vitamin C infusion to drink! Now for the Red pine, it isn't as medicinal as the white oak, and is better for structures, bows, and handles for tools.
Sugar Maples
Now we will talk about the Maples, most importantly, the Sugar Maples. The main aspect of the Maples is maple syrup, The syrup is only boiled sap! The leaves look like stars with jagged edges. one main look-alike is the sweet gum, the sweet gum leaves look exactly the same except the edges are refined not jagged like the maple.
White & Red Oaks
The last of the trees is, the Oaks! The oaks, like the pines, have a red oak & a white oak. the white oak has round edges and red oak has jagged edges. The white oak, like the white pine, is known for its medicinal values. The red oak like the red pine, is best for fires and structures!
Have Some Fun!
I hope these trees will help you a lot, out in the wild. Of all these trees, I believe the best of all these trees is the pine, although all these are Amazing! It is amazing how the uses of the red and white pines and oak are so similar! The sugar maple though, is one of a kind. Now go, and have some fun!
