3x3x3 Rubik's Cube Patterns and Notations
You can use any of these patterns. I just thought I would help people who want a pattern in a rubik's cube quickly and easily. The imagers above are most of the patterns that is included here. I think 1 or 2 is missing.
Do you know cube notaions? If not, go all the way down to step 7 then back up to step 1 once you have it covered. Cube notations is easy so it shouldn't take long.
Supplies
Any 3x3x3 rubik's cube.
Is the Rubik's Cube Solved?
If the cube isn't solved, make sure to solve it first. I mean, that is obvious. Just use whatever method you need to solve the rubik's cube then move on to the next step.
Simple Patterns
Want a simple pattern? You've come to the right place!
6 centers: U D’ R L’ F B’ U D’
4 centers: F2 B2 U D’ R2 L2 U D’
Checkerbord: U2 D2 F2 B2 L2 R2 (advanced notaions: M2 E2 S2)
Tetris: L R F B U’ D’ L’ R' (simple but looks cool!)
Facing checkerboard: U2 F2 U2 F2 B2 U2 F2 D2 (I remember through UF UF BUFD but all moves are 2x)
Mid-Difficulty Patterns
Something not too simple but not too complex? Great! Look below...
Anaconda: L U B’ U’ R L’ B R’ F B’ D R D’ F’
Green Mamba: R D R F R’ F’ B D R’ U’ B’ U D2
Cube in a cube: F L F U’ R U F2 L2 U’ L’ B D’ B’ L2 U
Python: F2 R’ B’ U R’ L F’ L F’ B D’ R B L2
4 Lines: U2 D2 F2 B2 U2 F2 U2 F2 B2 U2 F2 D2
4 Cross Pattern: There are many ways to do this.
- (R' L y) x6 (z U2 F2 U2 F2 B2 U2 F2 D2) - Contains advanced notations. Scroll down to step 6 to see how to do x, y & z on the cube.
- There is one that is very very long so I won't put it in here.
- I think there is another way that I found that I just can't remember.
Complex Patterns
Want something more complex? Great! Look below...
Superflip: U R2 F B R B2 R U2 L B2 R U’ D’ R2 F R’ L B2 U2 F2
Center/Edge/Corner: U’ R2 L2 F2 B2 U’ R L F B’ U F2 D2 R2 L2 F2 U2 F2 U’ F2
Cube in a cube in a cube: U’ L’ U’ F’ R2 B’ R F U B2 U B’ L U’ F U R F’
Advanced Notaions
Do you want something only advanced notaions can give you? Do you know advanced notaions? There isn't much but there is something!
Remember: x is rotating the cube on the R/L' faces (in the R direction). x' is rotating on the R'/L faces (in the R' direction).
y is rotating the cube on the U/D' (90 degrees to the left). y' is rotating on the D'/U (90 degrees to the right).
z is rotating the cube on the F/B' (90 degrees clockwise). z' is rotating on the F'/B (90 degrees anticlockwise).
4-H: M2 U2 M2 U2 y M2 U2 M2 U2 (shorthand: (M2 U2 M2 U2 y) x2)
4-I: M2 U2 M2 U2 x M2 U2 M2 U2 z (shorthand: (M2 U2 M2 U2 x) x2)
4 Cross pattern: (R L' y') +6 more times then --> (z U2 F2 U2 F2 B2 U2 F2 D2) - If you don't want the facing checkerboard pattern as a bonus, do the italic underlined bit. If you do want the facing checkerboard pattern as a bonus, don't do the italic underlined bit. - Also, brackets is to show the different parts of the algerithm. It it just to make it easier to read. I mean, you can follow - R L' y' R L' y' R L' y' R L' y' R L' y' R L' y' R L' y' z U2 F2 U2 F2 B2 U2 F2 D2 - imagine reading that!
Don't cross the line 1: M2 U2 M2 U2 M2 U2 F2 U2 F2 B2 U2 F2 D2
Don't cross the line 2: M2 U2 M2 U2 S2 M2
Combining Patterns
Maybe, you can combine patterns. With the 1st image above, I did the 4-H agerithm from advanced notations and before doing it again, I rotated the cube to do half of the 4-I pattern. After that, I did the facing checkerboard pattern. Just, don't try to combine patterns if all your faces have a pattern or the pattern your trying to do takes up more faces than what you have left.
This is the moves to what I did for the image above: M2 U2 M2 U2 x y M2 U2 M2 U2 y U2 F2 U2 F2 B2 U2 F2 D2
Another one I did was a little confusing if you read the 1st bit but this is the 2nd photo. Also, I didn't just swap the centers then twist the corners.
I did this: U’ L’ U’ F’ R2 B’ R F U B2 U B’ L U’ F U R L F U’ R U F2 L2 U’ L’ B D’ B’ L2 U2 D’ R L’ F B’ U D’ U D’ R L’ F B’ U D’
This will get you the same as the 2nd image. Or, maybe you will get a stuffed up cube. Well, to fix that, solve the cube however you want and try doing the patterns seperatly.
Cube in a cube in a cube: U’ L’ U’ F’ R2 B’ R F U B2 U B’ L U’ F U R F’ (found in advanced patterns - step 5)
Cube in a cube: F L F U’ R U F2 L2 U’ L’ B D’ B’ L2 U (found in mid-difficulty patterns - step 4)
6 centers: U D’ R L’ F B’ U D’ (found in simple patterns - step 3) - Do this step twice.
Don't Know Any Cube Notaions?
That's OK. Everyone can learn. These are the basic notations
R = Right face clockwise
R' = Right face anticlockwise
R2 = Right face turned (in any direction) twice
L = Left face clockwise
L' Left face anticlockwise
L2 = Left face turned (in any direction) twice
F = Front face clockwise
F' = Front face anticlockwise
F2 = Front face turned (in any direction) twice
B = Back face clockwise
B' = Back face anticlockwise
B2 = Back face turned (in any direction) twice
U = Upper face clockwise
U' = Upper face anticlockwise
U2 = Upper face turned (in any direction) twice
D = Down face clockwise
D' = Down face anticlockwise
D2 = Down face turned (in any direction) twice

Advanced Notations
This complicated and will take some time to learn.
x: Rotating the cube up (look at picture below)
y: Rotating the cube 90 degrees to the left (look at picture below)
z: Rotating the cube 90 degrees clockwise (on F face) - (look at picture below)
x, y, z picture: https://ibb.co/2qdWbdB
You may see some mive like 2Fw or maybe on a big cube 3Uw. Those are moreso the advanced notations (as well as M, S, & E). People can argue that x, y, and z are basic notations but you will never see them in a biggeners guide to solving the rubik's cube.
f: Rotating the front 2 faces of the cube clockwise.
f': Rotating the front 2 faces of the cube anticlockwise.
f2: Rotating the front 2 faces of the cube twice.
r: Rotating the right 2 faces of the cube clockwise.
r': Rotating the right 2 faces of the cube anticlockwise.
r2: Rotating the right 2 faces of the cube twice.
l: Rotating the left 2 faces of the cube clockwise.
l': Rotating the left 2 faces of the cube anticlockwise.
l2: Rotating the left 2 faces of the cube twice.
Please don't make me go on! It is all exactly the same for the U, B, & D faces.
Link to picture will be here ASAP
M, S, & E moves on a cube.
These are just the middle layers of the cube.
M: Middle layer between the R and L face down.
M': Middle layer between the R & L face up.
M2: Middle layer between the R & L face up/down twice.
S: Middle layer between F & B face to the right.
S': Middle layer between the F & B face to the left.
S2: Middle layer between the F & B face right/left twice.
E: Middle layer between the U & D face to the right.
E': Middle layer between the U & D face to the left.
E2: Middle layer between the U & D face right/left twice.
More advanced notations (for 4x4x4, 5x5x5 and anything higher) is theough this link. I have mentioned all the advanced notations for the 3x3x3 rubik's cube above. Link: https://ruwix.com/the-rubiks-cube/notation/advanced/.
Look Out for Updates
I am going to update this page every once in a while. Look out for any updates. There might be something awesome or just a spelling error.
Updates to look for:
- Reverse patterns to undo any patterns so you don't have to solve the cube over and over again or undo the algerithm and get confused.
Advanced Notations- ~27 new patterns
I Made It!
If you made one of these patterns, take a photo and say "I made it!" If your proud that you learned something new, add that in the comment!
I just want to make that clear because I don't want you buying lots of cubes to make all the patterns then take a photo. Just 1 should be enough.
