3rd Hand Upgrades With Sugru

I like my 3rd hand with a magnifying glass, but sometimes it just falls over as it isn't very well balanced.  Also sometimes the alligator clips bite into my PCBs and tear them up.

Gather Supplies

Gather needed supplies: 3rd hand, chunk of something for base, small rod such as drill bit or screwdriver, 1 pack of Sugru.

Pull off a small piece of sugru and roll it into a snake about an 1/8" thick and cut into 4 pieces about 3/8" long. Open the alligator clips and insert the rod to hold them open.  Insert a piece of Sugru in the top and bottom jaw of both clips.  Put to the side to dry.

Prepare the base.  Mine came with some felt, so I peeled it off.  Take the remaining Sugru and roll into a snake about 1/4" and then press it to the bottom of the base, then press firmly onto your base.  In my case I used a convenient chunk of lead.

Put It Back Together

Let everything dry 24 hours and reassemble.  Then you are done!
