3rd Hand Magnetic Wristband

Ever need a 3rd Hand? Tired of reaching back down to grab another nail or screw or bolt?

Here is a quick solution - a magnetic wristband!

Provided with velcro fasteners and super strong neodymium magnets its that 3rd hand you've been looking for.

Materials

You will need:

Duct Tape (I chose two-tone; gray and black, but that's up to you!)

1 set - Velcro Industrial Strength hook-and-loop self-adhesive fasteners 1-7/8 inch square

Several Neodymium magnets (I show disk and hard drive types - I used the hard drive ones - Easily recovered from a dead hard drive.)

Stapler (optional - in case the velcro adhesive wimps out)

Measure Your Wrist Circumference

Take some scrap paper and wrap it around your wrist. Mark the overlap - this is the circumference of you wrist. The wristband needs to be approximately 3 inches longer than the distance around your wrist.

Cut Your Duct Tape to Length

Cut your duct tape to be 3 inches longer than the distance around your wrist.

As mentioned earlier, I chose two-tone. With adhesive sides up I laid the grey on top of the black duct tape overlapping about 3/8 of an inch.

Trim the duct tape so that the outboard duct tape (black) is set back about a 1/4 inch from the end as shown.

Add Your Magnets

Add the neodymium magnets to one end of the wrist band about a half-inch from the end.

Fold one side of the duct tape up and over the magnets and along the length of the wrist band.

Fold the remaining duct tape over the first. Trim the corners to 45 degree angles.

Fold the remaining tab over the wristband to complete the band.

Add Velcro

Add the Velcro to the wristband.

The hook material goes over the magnet area on the inside surface (black side). It is set back from the end about a 1/4 inch.

The loop material goes on the two-tone side. It is set back from the end about 3/4 of an inch.

I had the stapler to use in case the velcro would not stay in position. But as it turned out the adhesive is very aggressive and does a great job staying put.

Get Out There and Put It to Work!

Put on your wrist band and load it up with whatever your project needs and save yourself that extra step of reaching for that fastener that now is as close as your wrist!

Enjoy!
