Planning

House Plans.png
Floor Layout.PNG

First make a general plan for the layout, doesn't need to have measurements or be 100% accurate but it helps.

After that go into 3DS Max and make the floor and walls. I made the walls 100 inches tall

Objects

Not gonna go into full detail as this is a tutorial to make a house, not how to make objects, that and it would simply take too long to list off how to make 20+ objects.

First get a measurement of how big it should be to be a reasonable size in the house.

I suggest making individual objects in their own scenes because you won't have to bother with the house getting in the way of your view unless multiple objects go together so you can get some consistency.

Next input those measurements into a new object in the scene. I personally find it best to make the segments half of the length so each segment is a 2 by 2 or just make it the same number and each segment is a 1 by 1, depends if you need something to be exact or if you need more curves as its easier to manipulate the shape with bigger segments.

Lastly change it to a editable mesh and modify it anyways you need for furniture.

If you wanna create a hole I suggest grabbing a side and extruding it a negative amount in the same increment of how big your segments are. This would make it easier if something has to go through there later and as well creating holes this way helps you create more consistent spacing than you could with Boolean as you can see how much there is on both sides of it.

Importing Objects

After saving all your objects as scenes go to file and import and select merge and select all the scene files.
When done you can start assigning materials.

Doors

For doors it can simply be a box without any extra detail you want.
Dupe that door and make it thicker than the wall and create a hole in the door via Boolean. this will create a perfectly sized hole for the door.

To make the door rotate on inside create another object to the side of the door and put the door within the new object

Materials

Not gonna go into specifics on how to assign materials but here are some tips.

If you want to make one part for floor a different material create a boolean with the floor and then but another box into that hole.

For Wooden Planks you can make the defuse texture to tiles, change it to running bond, and change their tiles to advanced wood.

Animation (Optional)

Animation.PNG

Animating isn't really a part of the house itself so it the hardest part. This is due to sometimes you forget to set keys, sometimes you forget to add new frames, sometimes you have to go back and then you have to deal with it wanting to tween between the existing frames.

Pretty much after pressing set frames you move objects between where you want it to move between and press the plus to set key frames and it will tween every frame in between after its first frame. Make sure to put a frame for its starting location too and make sure you go back to make sure the pacing isn't too quick

Lighting

If you try rendering it you might notice its a lot brighter. Do change this go into rendering/environment and then lower the global lighting level. Once thats done you can add your own lighting. go into the lightbulb icon in the create section, click the drop down, select standard and press omni to create a light source and place that wherever you like.

Rendering

Render.PNG

If you are going for just a picture your current settings are just fine. if you want a video for an animation you wanna go to Render Setup by pressing F10 or pressing the Teapot with the gear. Toggle Save File and set the location. Next go to Time Output and select Active Time Segment. Now you are good and you can press Render
