3D Printed Tusken Raider Gaffi Stick

IMG_1911.JPG

While watching the new Boba Fett series I was inspired to build a 3d printed gaffi stick, it is not exactly a look alike, but I think it will do for a costume. I designed this in tinkercad and built it, this is how you can build it to. This is a semi simple 3d print build that even a beginner could do. If you have any questions, you can comment or send me a message. Hope you enjoy!!!

Supplies

tools:

3d printer (220,220,250) build plate size recommended

dremel with sanding bit

2 paint brushes (one is for paint, and one is for wiping on glue the glue one is optional)

hammer

hacksaw

Materials:

500g of 3d printer plastic (I used overture PLA plastic on amazon)

1 inch PVC pipe 5 feet of it

black krylon spray paint

brown string (optional)

krylon hammered metal spray paint

faux leather

3/4-inch metal conduit 5 feet of it

For the first part of the build, you will have to 3d print the parts now it is about 36 hours of printing total for me, but for you time could be very different. I have printer heat settings set too bed 60 and nozzle 205 but your setting will change depending on your filament and printer. Supports, only 4 need supports and those are the files named: gaffi stick pineapple, gaffi stick bend and gaffi stick mace, gaffi stick converter and for the rest of them they should not need supports, if you have your support overhang angle set at 60 degrees. they should all load in the right orientation, but if they don't just message me. I will put the STL files below and the pictures above show the correct orientation.

Printing

For the printing part you just need to start the print and take the prints off, that is if you don't have a failed print. while I start heating up my printer, I always wipe the bed with 91% rubbing alcohol, and I get better adhesion. I also turn my bedroom fan off when I am printing and it also helps with it the reason, I am saying this is because the gaffi stick pineapple is a very large piece. so, it might peel up.

Post Printing

I lost the footage for this part but basically just sand all the parts and get rid of support material and stringing. You could wash all the parts to get all the sanding dust off, but but just dry wiping it with a rag did it for me.

For the painting portion of painting, I built a kind coat rack so that I could hang the gaffi stick from it and get an even coat all around. (You could hang it from a tree also) for the paints I used Krylon hammered metal, and Krylon satin black there will be pictures of the cans. I did three coats of each, and it seems fine, there will be picture of the progress above. I ended up painting over the brown as you can see in the pictures it's your choice but personally, I like it black.

Finishing Details

For the finishing details i just take a small paint brush and put a little black paint all over it to make it look worn and then I also wrap some faux leather around where I will grip it to for aesthetics, I also take a dremel with a sanding bit and scuff it up a bit to look more worn and used. there will be pictures above, I hope you enjoyed this build, and it turned out great!!! Thanks!!!
