3D Printed Tool for Making Breadboard Jumper Wires

When I make build circuits on breadboards I like to use solid core jumper wires when I can. The problem I had before I made this tool was getting the correct length of wire to make the jumper wires. But, with this tool all I need to know is how long I need my jumper wire to be.

Here is a list of the things for this project.

  1. 3D printed jumper wire template (See step 1)
  2. Solid core wire
  3. Wire cutters
  4. 3D printer

Printing

Below is the file for the jumper wire machine and the settings I used.

  • Filament type: PLA +
  • Build plate temperature: 65 c
  • Printer temperature: 200 c
  • Resolution: 0.2 mm
  • Build plate adhesion: skirt

To use the jumper wire machine, first cut a piece of solid core wire as long as you want (fig 2). Then strip one end and bend it 90 degrees (fig 3 and 4). Then place the wire in one of the groves of the 3D printed part (fig 6). If you need a jumper wire that is 10 holes long put the wire in the grove above the 10 and so on. Next, bend the wire and cut it off (fig 11) and then strip it.

Now you can make as much jumper wires as you want very quickly.
