This project required students to make use of their skills in designing from sketching to designing using software. Usually, most of the students are not capable of understanding the material that have been learning during the class. Hence, the project can be one of the factors to help students understand more further in CAD drawing. However, it was not as easy as it could have been, this project required students to brainstorm since there is a lot to discuss based on design selection, weaknesses and advantages of particular designs, and many more. Several challenges will be faced by the students. There are also limitations in running this project. Since the CAD design is specifically focused on the design this project will be fully focused on the design. Since this project has been assigned to do a drone or sumo robot then the design will be focused on the body of the drone or sumo robot only. All the methodologies will be explained in detail below.

Parts

4 parts have been designated in this project, such as the body itself, the upper cover, the wheel, and the shaft that holds the tires together. the design itself may be simple but we are pretty sure it is sturdy and balanced for any impaction and collision.

Body Cover

Body Cover.JPG

The first part is the body itself. The dimension for this design is 50 mm x 50 mm. The design must be not too big and not too small so that the sumo robot body can be fabricated using the 3D printing machine. the 2 rectangular holes can function as a cooling mechanism. As we know the battery itself will become hot when we use it for too long. So it will prevent any accident from happening. The other hole will be the charger input. We can charge through that hole that is connected to the battery.

Upper Cover

The body's upper cover is also a part of this sumo robot. the purpose of this part design is to ensure that the interior cannot be damaged during the fight. We can lower the risk, so that the sumo robot can keep going as the system inside is still intact with the body.

Axle Wheel

Axle Wheel.JPG

The Axle wheel is the part that holds the tires together front and back. We designed it with one axle so that it can easily be installed on the sumo robot's body.

Wheel

Sumo Robot has 4 wheels that will be connected to the axle. We have extruded cut the holes as half as the diameter of the tires so that they can plug in and intact with each other.

There are also some challenges we face during conducting this project. Selection design is one of them, during the brainstorming session, we had several designs that will be narrowed down to one that we will be focusing on. However, after referring to our supervisor, we decide to not use any of that design. The particular reason is that the design itself must be a model, not an invention as all the design seems to be an invention. So we do some research to come out with this design.

DISCUSSION

There are also some challenges we face during conducting this project. Selection design is one of them, during the brainstorming session, we had several designs that will be narrowed down to one that we will be focusing on. However, after referring to our supervisor, we decide to not use any of that design. The particular reason is that the design itself must be a model, not an invention as all the design seems to be an invention. So we do some research to come out with this design. Furthermore, our group also has one problem which is fully occupied with the 3D printing lab, since all students use this lab to fabricate some product for their project. However, in the end, we decided we would order from an online shop to fabricate the design. Its time consuming to wait for the design to finish fabricate but thankfully we make it.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, this project will be wrapped up with appreciation to all the group members who contributed to the project from Branstrom to Fabricate. this project also gave us so much experience in conducting the project, leadership, and teamwork. We also get to enhance our design skills using Autocad and Solidworks for the future.
