Comp 1_3.00_00_08_29.Still001.jpg

I am building highly customized camping power bank and I want it to have music player and many other things integrated, so as a first step I built speakers for it...

Supplies

  • PAM8610 2X10W 12V Class-D audio amplifier (Aliexpress link)
  • AIYIMA 2" (5cm) 4Ohm 10W speaker drivers (Aliexpress link)
  • 8x M3 25mm countersunk screw with nut, 5.5mm head diameter (for the front cover for both speakers)
  • 8x M3 25mm wood screw, 5.5mm head diameter (for the speaker driver for both speakers)
  • FDM 3D printer and about 400-500g filament (STL parts models link)
  • Lots of free time

I recently bought FDM 3d printer and I designed and 3d printed the speaker boxes based on HexiBase 3D printed sub-woofer design (Link to his video). I bought 2" (5cm) 10W 4Ω speaker drivers from Aliexpres for $5.7USD and PAM8610 2x10W amplifier for $1.68USD to power the speakers.

Designing the Box

I designed the parts in SolidWorks. The first design had grove and lip on the edge for rigidity and air-proofing but my printer is not setup properly and the groove ended up not fitting in the lip, so I removed the lips and grooves and just glued the two halves together using universal glue. I also drilled a 5mm hole on the side of the boxes for the cables after printing.

Testing

DIY 3D printed speakers (Ultimate camping power bank part1)

This small DIY speakers ended costing $16.38USD (filament included) and produce quite good quality sound, they are way better than the desktop speakers that I was using which cost around $25USD. Check the video to see them in action (must warn you that the audio is not that great since I am still waiting for my ordered microphone).

HexiBase calculates the sizes for the boxes for his speakers but my speaker drivers come without specifications so I guessed the size.

All in all, I am happy with the speakers and I am currently using them as a desktop speakers till I assemble the power bank where they will be integrated...
