3D Printed Pen Holder

Some people need support by holding a thin pen/pencil, they need a larger grip/surface. Here is my DIY idea: A 3D printed pen holder.

• Tinkercad

I designed up to three models in Tinkercad to figure out which shape worked the best. I went for the triangle one. To me, this was the most comfortable shape to hold in hand.

The size of the lead-hole for the pen depends on the thickness/diameter of your pen and the expansion of your filament. The length is around 2 inches or 50 mm.

The pen holder was 3D printed on the Ender 2 (before the nozzle clogged!) with flexible black filament. To be honest, the holders fit is a little to tight but I could not print another one because my 3D printer had extruding issues. The replacement nozzle is already ordered but will not be delivered in time.

Slicer settings (ideamaker):

• Shells: 3
• Infill: 15 %
• Platform addition: Brim only
• Layer Height: 0.2000
• Support: none

The softer your flexible filament is the more comfortable it will be. I've used another flexible filament for a prototype which doesn't felt so good.

With more effort as intended I plugged the pen into the holder. But at least it looks pretty cool on the white pen. So, writing down and sketching out my next instructables projects will be a relief with this kind of support.

The positive side effect and additional benefit: The holder stops the pen from rolling over the table and dropping to the ground.
