3D Printed Brush Bot

I made a 3D printed bush bot. I wanted to recreate the hex bots that I had as a kid.

  1. 1 cylindrical supercapacitor: 1F/2.7V
  2. 2 cellphone buzzer motors
  3. 3D printer
  4. CAD software to design print (I used OnShape)
  5. 9V battery
  6. Hot glue gun
  7. Solder
  8. Soldering Iron
  9. Wire cutters/strippers

Design 3D Printed Body

In Onshape, I designed the body. I started by making a rectangle. They I added legs to one side and used mirroring to make the process faster. Then I curved the top of the body to make the design look better.

Make Circuit

Strip ends of the motors’ wires and solder the exposed wire. Next solder the positive wires of the motors and the negative wires of the motors to the corresponding legs of the capacitor.

Combine Body and Circuit

Hot glue the circuit onto the body of the robot. I choose to make the motors look like “eyes,” and had the legs of the capacitor stick up for easy charging.

Charge Bot and Have Fun!

Press the two ends of the capacitor to the corresponding terminals of the battery and watch your robot move around!
