Hey you guys! After making the Goonies Doubloon I decided to make another piece of the puzzle: Chester Copperpot's Copper Bone. I couldn't find a good 3D model online, so I made my own with Sketchup. We don't get a really good look at the prop in the movie, but it did appear in the souvenir magazine in 1985, so I used that as my guide. This is a nice easy Instructable, just print and paint!

Download the .STL file and print it using your preferred settings. I used PLA and the 'normal' setting with a skirt, which took about 2.5 hours.

I painted the Copper Bone with acrylics. The original prop was actually cast in brass, not copper, but you can't really tell in the movie. Everyone has their own preferred technique for painting, but here's what I did.

  • Undercoat with black or very dark brown
  • Roughly paint with copper metallic colour
  • Dry brush with gold
  • Apply a bright green wash, the colour of verdigris (copper oxide)
  • Apply some patches of black wash

You're done! Now go find some triple stones...
