3D Model House

We will be attempting to create a 3D Model Home and to give a small animation to show off its interior.

You will need the 3DS Max software and a good set of eyes.

Foundation

Begin with your foundation. use the plane creator and make a plane your desired width.

Walls

To begin your walls use the box creator and create rectangular boxes along the outline of your plane. We will return to the walls later to give them texture and allow the theme of the home to be determined.

Kitchen

We will begin with our kitchen. use the box tool once again to create the shapes for your refrigerator, cabinets, oven, and island. come back once more and add detail using thin boxes and place them among the materials.

To texture the kitchen and the rest of the house I used the material editor for the fridge I added a white stucco to give it a white glossy effect. Then for the cabinets, I used a darker advanced wood. Then for the oven, I only added a material to the black portion of the box. I added a black stucco to make it darker and glossy. I colored the rest of the oven grey. I then added a marble material to the countertop to give it some realism.

Living Room

Next move to your living room. To create the chair and couch we will once again use our box creator. Create the bottom, back cushion, and armrests. vary between sizes for the couch and chair. The TV will also be made from the box creator, putting a thin, black box as the screen.

Texturing the Living Room

Texturing the living room is a simple task. first, open the material editor and decide which materials to use. For the couch and chair, I used the same material, a blue and grey swirl. Then for the TV, I only gave a black stucco material to the screen portion of the box and colored the rest gray.

Bedroom

Next, we will work on our bedroom. The things we need in our bedroom are a bed, a dresser, and a closet. The main tool we will use is the box creator to make the bed and other objects.

To create the closet I added walls to the corner of the bedroom. I then used the boolean subtraction tool and subtracted a rectangle from the wall, which left a door-shaped hole.

Texturing the Bedroom

I first gave a texture to the bed. I gave the bed a swirl material and made it so the swirl was more of a stripe pattern. I then gave the dresser a darker advanced wood material, excluding the drawers. Then I added a smoothness modifier and added it to the pillows, bed, and dresser drawers.

Forks

to create the forks I connected a long rectangular box to a smaller square box. then I made the smaller square an editable poly and stretched the vertices to make three sharp points. I then cloned the grouped objects four times and placed them upon the table.

Spoon

To create the spoons I took a long rectangular box and connected it to a sphere. I then cloned the finished product and placed them on the table. After I added a grey stucco material to give them an authentic silverware feel.

Knives

To create the knives I took a long, thin box and used the editable poly function. I used the vertex function and stretched out the uppermost vertex. I then cloned this and added a grey stucco material to make it look like silverware. I then added this to the table.

Bowls

To create the bowls I first created a sphere and made it an editable poly. I then used the vertex modifier and used soft selection. I caved in the first half of the sphere and then cloned it to add it to the table four times. I then added a white stucco material to make it look like a ceramic bowl.

Plates

I first created a small and flat cylinder. I then converted it to an editable poly and like the bowl used soft selection to cave in a portion of the top. I then cloned this four times and added a white stucco material to make it look like a ceramic plate.

Chairs

To create the chairs I first created a medium-sized box. I then made it an editable poly and used the segment tool to delete multiple segments of the box to make it seem it had four legs. Then I made a thinner box to create the back of the chair. I grouped the two together and cloned the final shape four times. I then placed it around my dining table.

Dining Room

after we have completed the construction of our plates, forks, and spoons we will place them atop the dining room table which can be created by placing a rectangular box atop a medium-sized cylinder. Then place four chairs around the four sides of the table and then the dining room is complete.

After everything was added to the table I then added materials to the table. I added the advanced wood texture to the table, which was also used for the cabinets and dresser, but darker. The advanced wood does not show up until the finished render. I then put the chairs around each side of the table and gave them the swirl material to make them unique.

Bathroom

To add the next portion of the house I created a new plane on which to build. I then added three new walls and colored them a lighter blue.

I first started with the sink and mirror. I created a medium-sized cylinder and then added a thin rectangular box to create the sink. I then put a thinner box on the wall to make the corresponding mirror. To create the toilet I put a larger rectangular box behind a small cylinder and merged them together. To create the shower head and bath I took a long, thin cylinder and added a flat cone to the top. Then to make the bath tub I took a flat rectangle and put taller boxes around it and grouped them together.

Towel Rack

To create the towel rack I first created a very smaller rectangle and cloned it once. I then placed them in the middle of the wall and put a thin cylinder in between to connect them. Then put a medium rectangle on that cylinder to look like a towel. I then added the smoothness modifier to the towel to make it look more realistic.

I added a grey stucco to the shower head and mirror to give it a glossy finish and to add realism. Then I added a white stucco to the sink, bathtub, and toilet to give it a ceramic look. I also added a grey stucco finish to the towel rack and added a checker pattern to the towel. I put a tile pattern on the floor to then further the realism.

To add windows, I used the Boolean subtraction tool. I put medium-sized rectangles through the walls and subtracted them to add a very nicely sized hole. my first attempt was in the kitchen and quickly saw the importance of cloning the rectangles for similar-sized holes.

I used the same principle I used on the windows on the doors, boolean subtraction. I built rectangles from the floor to just about the top of the wall and put them at the front of the house, back of the house, to the bathroom, and to the closet.

The Camera

I created a line that went through each of the rooms that I created. Then added a camera to that line and gave it a 15mm lens and ran it on that line. It entered the house through the front door and exited through the back. The camera is on follow mode to allow it to get a good view of each room.

Lighting

To allow the scene to be seen clearly lighting must be added. I added a skylight over almost every room to allow there to be enough light in each room.

Animation

When you put a camera in the scene, upon a line, it will automatically create keyframes. You can change the frame rate and pace to your desire.
