3D Halloween Shadow Box With 3D Coffin
Hi my name i Jai and i am currently pursuing btech mechanical i choose mechanical becuase i love to build things and when they work as i thought i enjoy that so for the halloween contest i made a 3D light box box that captures the spooky and magical spirit of the festival which is inspired by 2 movie which is a horror movie monster house and goosebumps 2 i use lighting with some cotton to give foggy and cold vibe to scene and use orange light to give same time warm effect and i make every figures by myself like pumpkin and coffin and tress, bats The combination of design, cutting, and lighting gives it a realistic 3D effect that stands out in the dark. The idea behind my 3D light box was to combine creativity and technology that express perfectly vibe of Halloween.
Supplies
Supplies Used:To Create 3D Light Box
- Cardboard box (for the frame and structure)
- White paper (for background layers and designs)
- Black paper (for silhouettes and spooky effects and for bats and coffin)
- Glue (for sticking paper layers)
- Super glue (for stronger joints and light fixtures)
- Cutter (for precise cutting of designs)
- Pencil (for sketching outlines before cutting)
- LED lights (for illumination inside the boxand give the spooky vibe)(colour-Red)
- Cotton (for creating fog, clouds, or smoke effects)
- Paint (for coloring and adding extra details on pumpkin )
- White gel pen (for highlights or glowing effects on coffin and bats)
- Tape (for fixing lights or holding layers in place temporarilyand cover the frame with white paper)
- Thread(for hang bats to give flying effect)
Box Cutting Lid for the Scene to Potray
First, I took a cardboard box and cut off the top lid carefully using a cutter. This made the box open from one side so that I could work easily inside it. I made sure the edges were neat and even because this side will be the front of the light box.
Cutting/Drawing Layers-Making the Layers
Next, I cut different layers for my shadow box using white and black paper. I drew and cut shapes like fences, pumpkins, bats, trees, and a house with a moon in the background. I made each design on a separate sheet so that when placed one behind another, they would create a nice 3D look. the things i drew is :-
1. House
2.Trees
3.Fences
4.Pumpkin
5.Bats
6.Moon
Placing Cotton and Moon
In this step, I added the moon and some cotton inside the box. I placed the moon at the back to make it look like it’s shining in the night sky. Then, I used cotton around it to create a cloudy or foggy effect, which made the scene look more real and spooky in this step the ligths isn't placed yet so i had to remove the cotton to make the better arrangment of lights for better outcome
Placing the House and Lights
Next, I placed the house cutout inside the box and then carefully added the lights. I removed some of the cotton to fix the lights properly in the right place. After setting them, I adjusted the cotton back so the lights spread evenly and made the house and moon glow nicely.
Fixing LED Lights in Place
I cut small holes or spaces in the cardboard to insert the LED lights. This helped to fix them firmly so they wouldn’t move, and the light could shine through perfectly. adn easy to replacement of light if light might get defected i got the idea from the frame once i saw at my grandparents house so i did it and it worked for me.
Making the Coffin Decoration
After that, I made a small coffin decoration from paper and white gel pen to add more Halloween detail. I colored it white and decorated it before placing it inside the box .
Assembling All the Layers
I carefully placed all the paper layers (trees, bats, fences, and pumpkins) one behind another inside the box. I used glue and small cardboard pieces between them to create depth and a 3D effect.
Wrapping and Framing the Box
Once everything was set, I wrapped the outside of the box with white paper to give it a clean look. Then, I made a border or frame with black paper strips to make the front look neat and professional. and i failed before 2 times first time i used full black paper stick with glue only but the edges look messy so tear it and in second one i used paper bag end part to save my time to directly fit box into mold of paper bag but it also doesnt work so i come with idea that i paste full paper but use tape only on edges while connecting ohter paper to it that solve messy edges problem.
Making the Front Frame
To make the front frame, I cut black paper strips according to the size of the box’s front edges. First, I glued one layer of strips around the frame, then added another layer on bottom to make it stronger and more angular. After that, I joined and fixed all the edges neatly using tape so the frame looked clean and firm and then come edge look because i connect both strips at 90 degree.
Final Touches
Finally, I checked the lighting, fixed any loose parts with tape, and made sure everything looked perfect. When I turned on the lights, the box glowed beautifully with a spooky Halloween vibe. and when i change the distance of taking photo in dark then its colour changes
🎃 Conclusion
I really enjoyed making this 3D Halloween light box because it let me use my creativity and imagination. I wanted to create something that not only looked spooky but also glowed beautifully in the dark. Through this project, I learned how to plan, cut, and arrange layers to make a 3D effect with lights. When I finally turned it on, the scene came to life — with the glowing moon, shadows, and tiny details making it feel truly magical. I made it to celebrate the spirit of Halloween and to share the fun and excitement of this festival with everyone.
And i will definitely make cool projects like this one with some more electronics and this 3D Light Art could definitely have some improvments but due to time issue i rahter skip them i hope you like it THANK YOU
✨ Happy Halloween! 👻🎃💡
