in this instructable, you will learn how to make an awesome , third dimension (not simple cut out) snowflake!

items needed:

1. six squares of up to three different colors(you can make the squares from rectangular paper as i will show you how to)

2. scissors/x-acto knife with self healing cutting board

3. tape (double sided works well if you know how to use it)

4. stapler and staples

5. ruler

Make the Squares of Paper

first, fold the paper so that it has a trapezoidal shape, and the top edge meets the side edge so that the corner comes to a fine point. Next, cut along the rectangle that is formed, and discard it. keep the triangle and unfold it. You can either do all of the sheets at once, or one at a time. i did it one at a time, as it yields a more uniform size in the end.

Folding Before Cutting

Next, fold it back into a large triangle, and then fold the left corner over to the right so that it is like the second picture. Notice that the open side is on the left, and the right angle is on the right. then, draw the lines as they are seen on the last picture. I recommend making marks along the legs either1 to 1.5 inches away from eachother and then going from there.

Cutting the Lines

cut along the diagonal lines so that it looks like the first picture. unfold carefully because it should stick together. then, take the innermost cuts, and tape them together as shown in picture three.

Taping/stapleing the Cuts

next, do the same for every other cut. in other words, skip one line, cut the next, then skip the next one. and STAPLE THESE TOGETHER (if your stapler can fit inside safely)

Flipping and Repeating

Once you have finished that, flip it over and do it again on the remaining strips so that it will look like the second picture.

Stapling the Half-piece Step One

100_0161.JPG
do the same for the other pieces, and arrange a group of three as you would like colorwise. PAY ATTENTION TO HOW THEY ARE FACING EACH OTHER. if the outtermost cut is called the face, and the one on the other side is called the tail, then it goes face to tail. staple them in that order, or use tape. dealer's choice.

Stapling the Half-pieces Part Two

then staple the points of them as shown in the picture number one. repeat these steps to make a second, identical figure.

Attaching the Halves

Arrange the two pieces to be rotationally symmetrical (picture 1) and then attach the head side of one to the tail side of the other. Now do it again. then staple the pieces in the middle together to finish it.

Making a Decoration

you can use any sized piece of paper, but all six have to be the same size. put tape over the place you want a hole,  punch a hole in the point of one of the ends, and then string it, but not too tightly because you don't want to bend the tip of it. the tape is used to reinforce the paper. you can use reinforcements for filler paper, too, but they tend to fall off more often.
