2.5 Inch Hard Disk Wallet
Back then where external casing was not available, I dismantled this old IBM - 6.49 gb hard drive from a broken laptop with some external IDE/SATA cable to connect on USB port. Considering the fragility of drop and knock part, a casing idea derived to serve its function.And so it become portable.
Supplies
- Some cloth of jeans from worn out trousers
- Scrap or used cardboard
- White glue
- Needle and thread (any color preference but I use white)
- 1.5 inch Elastic band - black
- Scissors or X-acto knife
- Steel ruler
- Cutting mat
- IDE/SATA to USB cable
Shaping Size of Cardboard and Jeans Cut Pieces
Measure the size of hard disk on cardboard , cut into foldable wallet dimensions. Cut the jeans cloth into 2 pieces of the cardboard size a little wider. Another two strips of jeans as the latch and hole for locking.
Putting Pieces Together and Sewing
First, take a piece of the cloth and glue the cardboard around leaving some gap to be fold neatly on the other side of the cardboard (pic1, pic 2). On the other cloth piece, approximately measure along the middle of the edge for the longer strip to be sew as the latch and on the other side, measure the width of the latch to make the hole for locking up the wallet (pic 3). Next is fold a little gap of the second piece neatly and join with the first and sew it up together (pic 4, pic 5) Up to this part, take the hard drive as a mark to fold (pic 6, pic 7) and measure approximate width of elasticity band to let it sit nicely (pic 8). Now, we are ready to put the hard disk to settle down (pic 9). Finally, get the cable ready only when you have it (its old cable) and enjoy fun of making and computing.
