2 Second DIY Watercolor Background

I find that the Instructables I actually make use of tend to have three things in common: they're simple, fast, and inexpensive. I think that this Instructable fits the bill.

A big trend in home design is typography art, and a popular design is to have a quote with a watercolor behind it. This Instructable hopes to recreate that, and with items that are probably already in your home.

Supplies

  • Crayola (or similar) markers
  • Printer
  • Good quality paper
  • Spray bottle
  • Ziploc bag

Design Your Quote or Design

Begin by designing your quote or design, in a program like Photoshop or even just Google Docs or Microsoft Word, and then print the image. If you are displaying the piece, it's worth it to use a better quality paper, though it is not strictly necessary.

Color the Bag

Using your markers, draw random lines on your Ziploc bag.

Spray Water on the Bag

Use your spray bottle to then spray water on the bag. It should be as wet as possible without getting drippy when you turn your bag over. If there are drips, dab at them with a paper towel.

Press the Bag Down on the Design

Neatly place the ziploc around the design, and press on the ink so that it recreates a watercolor pattern. If it is a larger design, like I had, you might have to repeat the process.

If there are any empty spots, you can also just color a corner of the bag and use that to dab at the picture.

Let the paper dry, and then enjoy your newest member to your art collection. It's almost free, takes less than a minute to make, and allows you to have fun switching up decor whenever the mood strikes.
