2 Ingredient Non-Toxic Nail Polish
Painting your nails is such a fun way to relax after a stressful week, but sometimes you just don't have the right color. Or, you do, but just don't want to deal with your house smelling like a chemical plant for the rest of the month ;)
I came up with the idea for this nail polish after cleaning out my makeup drawer. There were so many broken, forgotten eyeshadow and blush cakes! Some of them had really unique, shimmery colors--too bold for my face, but not for my fingers!
What I love about this project is you can make it in any color and it works just as well as any other nail polish, if not even better!
Supplies
- Eyeshadow or blush
- Non-toxic and kid friendly white glue (such as Tacky Glue)
- Water
- Small bowl
- Small spoon
- Old nail polish brush
- Nail polish remover (to clean the brush)
- Small container (to store extra polish)
Prepare Your Color
Gently scrape out the makeup into a small bowl. Feel free to blend multiple different colors together! It doesn't take much effort, but if you're not careful the powder might end up on your table.
Place it all in a small bowl and crush to a fine, even powder with your spoon.
Mix in the Glue
Paint!
To be able to paint you'll first need a brush. I took an old one from a store bought nail polish and cleaned it with some nail polish remover.
Then just paint your nails like you normally would!
I find that especially if you leave the paint a bit thicker than normal nail polish, it's super easy to apply and get a clean finish. I highly recommend that you apply a clear top coat afterwards because otherwise it won't be waterproof and could wash off.
One bonus of this glue nail polish is that it dries super quickly, perfect for if you're busy or are doing it for a child.
Storage + Comments
To store, simply put it in a small, sealed container at room temperature. If you used eyeshadow, you might not have any left over, but since blush is usually bigger, you might have some extra for next time.
Overall, I'm really happy with how this turned out! I think it'd be a great Summer Vacation activity for kids to do especially since all the ingredients are so safe! Plus, it's super cheap and gives your unwanted makeup a new life.
Let me know in the comments how this turned out for you I'd love to see pictures of what colors you experimented with!
