I always wanted to make slippers like my grandma and recently i took the time to teach myself how.

I asked on a blog one time sharing a picture of my slippers and was told it was made using the 2 color slip stitch I will include a link to a video i watched when i first tried to make these.

Size of these specific pattern I have written is womens small. Someone who wears a size 8 shoes would fit into these slippers the length can easily be changed but the width can be a bit iffy but if you know what your doing its easy enough to change it up.

I made baby slippers with the same concept by casting on 23 and working the pattern till about 3.5 inchs long. They where a bit big but babies grow so fast.

Notes
- The first row with each color the part facing you is considered the front or outside of the slipper
- when you switch color grab it from under NOT over

Supplies

- 5mm knitting needle (any type works, if using Double pointed be careful to pay attention to your colors)
- 2 colors worsted weight yarn (about 23 grams each color)

Stitches
Knit
slip stitch
While slipping keep working yarn on wrong side (what is the inside of the slipper)

Body

Starting with color A

1. Cast on 39 (with preferred cast on leaving a longer tail to close this is the back or the slipper)
2. Knit all stitches

Change to 2nd colour
1. "Knit 3, slip" till last 3 knit three
2 "Knit 3, slip" till last 3 knit them

Change to 1st colour
3. Knit 1, slip, "knit 3, slip" till last 1 knit it
4. Knit 1, slip, "knit 3, slip" till 1 left knit it

Repeat 1-4 till 8.5 inches long
(or desired length is your foot is shorter or longer)

Toe Decrease

Toe decrease depends on which color you are at when you decide your foot is long enough. I usually do with color B cause i find it less confusing... but I also think i do it differently every time. Hopefully these will work... i did test them both on a small swatch and they seemed to work fine.

With color A
1. Knit 1, slip, "knit 3, slip" till last 1 knit it
2 . Knit 1, slip, "knit 1, k2tog, slip" till 1 left knit it
Switch 2 color B
3. "K2tog, slip"
Cut yarn with long tail for next step

With Color B
1. "Knit 3, Slip"
2. "K2tog, K slip"
Change color
3. "Slip, k2tog" k last stitch
Cut leaving long tail

Finishing Off

These can be done which ever way you choose to do but i prefer to close off the slipper back before i do the main part.

1. Using the long tail we just finished and grab all the stitches opposite side of the work first and close the toe. Pull it a bit and then leave it for now.
(Highlighted in green)

2. Going back to the beginning use the cast on tail. Fold the back in half and using the tail stitch it together. I do this inside out so its hopefully neater looking on the outside.
(Highlighted in yellow)

3. Going back to the toe... this is the worst part i don't know why I cannot explain how to do this nicely but holding the parts together use the tail to stitch them together it may be messy so its best to do it inside out.
(Highlighted in light Blue)

4. And then just work in the rest of the loose yarn the best you can.

Now you did it you made a slipper.. now.. Make another
Have fun!
