16 Inch BAB Bear Dress Shirt

IMG-6008.jpg

DCIH pattern designed by Carla Beasley
I modified the shirt to add facings and thus altered the front piece as well
I printed the pattern at 105% as original felt snug.

Supplies

woven fabric, velcro

Step 1: Required Pattern Pieces

Pattern pieces as provided by Carla Beasley (DCIH)

I cut off 1 inch from front piece as I created front and back facing pieces (1 inch wide).

Step 2: Cut Out Pieces

Place back facing on one front facing piece. Sew (shoulder). Press seam open

Place other front facing piece at other end of back facing piece and sew. Press seam open.

Finish all raw edges either with a short zig zag stitch on regular sewing machine or with serger. (to prevent fraying).

Set aside.

Step 4: Prepare Collar

Pin front pieces to back at shoulders and sew.

Press shoulder seams open.

Serge (or use zig zag stitch) sleeve hems and bottom of front and back pieces.

I find it easier to hem the sleeves at this step. Press hem about 1/4" and sew.

Step 6: Attaching Facings and Collar

Pin collar to shirt neckline first.

Find center of collar and back neckline and mark with a pin. Pin together

Collar is not as long as neckline. Place ends of collar 1 inch from each side. Then carefully pin collar all around.

Baste collar in place.

Then pin facing around the neckline and the front openings of shirt. Start with matching the shoulder seams and then carefully pin all around. The collar is effectively sandwiched between the shirt and the facing.

Sew all around facing. Snip corners at top front at each end. Clip all around neckline.

Turn over and carefully press all around the neckline and front sides with facing.

Topstitch along the collar part.

Step 7: Finish Shirt Assembly

Attach velcro to fronts.

You Are Done!
