Scale Drawing

First I selected a door to scale down.
I then took photos of the door. Whilst there I only took one measurement.
Then I worked out the measurements I needed for the model.
After drawing up the scale drawing I made a sketch model.
Measuring Your Parts

First I used 180 grit sand paper to make the surface of the clear acrylic rough. This enabled me to draw on the acrylic.
I then marked up each part that needed to be cut. I kept referring back to my scale drawings.
When marking up the clear acrylic I drew where I would drill holes ready to cut.
Drilling, Filing and Sanding

Here I drilled four holes into the clear acrylic. I then took apart my coping saw so the blade went through the hole. This enabled me to cut a square in the middle of the acrylic. I then filed and sanded the edges.
I filed and sanded the edges of the other parts too!
Cutting Out the Door

I then started to cut out the door and the door detailing front and back.
I used my scalpel to score the smaller parts so they wouldn't snap.
I cut a backing so the front part would be sturdy.
I attached all the parts together with Plastic Weld.
Please Note:
If you have snapped your styrene you can join it back together again using the plastic weld. I have done this many times and the plastic becomes really strong!
Attaching the Door

I prepared the back of the door to reinforce it. The door I chose was set back slightly so I needed to be able to replicate the depth.
After securing the door to the clear acrylic I then focused on adding the already cut out detailing. Again I used plastic weld to attach the parts together.
Making the Steps

I collected all the parts I had already cut and prepared. I made a makeshift jig to secure the outer parts. Underneath I cut some small parts of styrene to help strengthen it. I used plastic weld to attach all the parts together.
Detailing and Securing the Model

I sanded a few imperfections off the top step. Then I attached the steps to the main body using plastic weld.
I then added a railing to the right of the steps made from styrene.
I secured the back with some spare acrylic, to give the model some stability.
Cleaning and Spraying

I cleaned the model of any dust or imperfections using lighter fluid.
I used masking tape to cover the windows in the top of the door.
I then sprayed the model white in a well ventilated room.
Finishing

After spraying I compared my model next to the original sketch model!
