10 Step Pencil Pouch

IMG_0413.jpg

This is a very easy beginners project which is fun and only takes 30 minutes with 10 simple steps.

Materials

The materials that you may need are...

  • Sewing Machine
  • Pins
  • 4 pieces of fabric (9.5 by 5.5 inches any color)
  • 9 inch zipper
  • Fray Glue (Optional)
  • Scissors
  • Iron (Optional)

Optional Step

In my personal opinion it works a little better if I iron the fabric, but this is based on how wrinkly your fabric is, and remember this is totally optional.

Optional Step

At this point I used fray glue because I find it helps using fray glue on your sewing projects.

Laying Out Your Pieces for One Side

For this step you are going to want to place the fabric wrong sides facing each other and put the zipper in between them and make sure the fabric is lined up with the top of the zipper. Then you are going to want to pin the together so they will keep aligned. And then sew it.

What It Should Look Like After Step 3

Once you turn it so they are right side up this is what they should look like.

Other Side

IMG_0397.jpg

You are going to do the same thing as you did with the first side. First you need to turn the first side so that it is now like how it was before you turned it right side up. Now you are going to want to place the two fabrics wrong sides facing each other and line it up with the other side of the zipper and then start sewing.

Update

This is what it should now look like after you are done sewing.

Sewing the Bottom

IMG_0406.jpg

Now you need to sew the bottom before doing it make sure you line up all the fabric and pin it.

Sew the Sides

You now need to sew the sides before you do this you need to unzip the zipper very little then take the slits after the zipper and hand sew them together. After finished with that step you need to unzip the zipper about half way so you will be able to flip it inside out after unzipping it half way you need to turn it inside out. Next you can sew the sides this step can be very scary because you need to sew over the zipper yes I know sounds silly but if you do not then there will be a whole in your pencil pouch and I promise you your sewing machines needle will not break.

Turn It

You can now turn it so it is not inside out and enjoy your creation.
