10 Life Hacks with PVC #10

Here is the 10th Edition to our 10 Life Hacks videos. We built and tested these with success. I hope you can benefit from some of these awesome life hacks.

Tree Saw Extension

Parts Needed:

- 1-inch PVC pipe

- Coupling

- T-connector

- Zip Ties

Tools Needed:

- Drill

- Marker

Have you ever wanted to cut down a tree limb, but it was just a little too high to reach?

Here is a great way to solve that problem.

I took a small section of 1-inch PVC pipe and placed it against the saw.

I made a couple of marks where the saw and pipe intersected.

I then drilled some holes into the pipe.

I attached the pipe to the saw using some zip ties. Rope could also work.

I then added a coupling to the back of the first pipe.

The coupling now allows me to add a long pipe to extend the saw much higher into the tree.

I also added a T-connector to the back of the long pipe for a hand grip.

The saw works well at cutting down small limbs.

Transform your Shelf with a Hanging bar

Most shelves do not have a good place to add clothes hangers.

Even many of the newer metal shelves have small holes but the hangers cannot slide easily.

If you take a piece of 1-inch PVC pipe and add it to the top edge of the shelf, you can now add hangers easily.

Also the pipe keeps things from falling off the shelf.

For metal shelves, you can use zip ties to hold the pipe.

For wooden shelves, you will have to drill a couple holes and add some screws to hold it in place.

Make the Corners of your Trailer Visible

If you have ever tried to back up a small trailer, you have noticed how hard it is to see it.

Now if you add some vertical placed PVC pipe to the corners, it is easier to see where you are going.

Depending on your trailer, you might be able to use some rope or zip ties to keep the pipe in place.

Make sure to paint the pipe a bright color (orange, yellow, etc) so it is easy to see.

Backing should be much easier.

Easy way to Hang a Sign on a Fence

Hanging a sign on a fence can sometimes be challenging.

But if you use some PVC pipe, it can be easier.

Cut a piece of pipe about the length of the sign.

Mark the holes of the sign onto the pipe.

Drill some holes into the pipe just big enough to slide in some long bolts.

Push the bolts through the sign and place it on the fence.

Add the PVC to the opposite side of the fence and attach the nuts.

If needed, you could add some washers.

Now the sign is securely attached to the fence.

Spool Holder

If you have a 3d printer, then you have a spool of filamentnear by.

Here is a great way to store the spool and use it at the same time.

PVC needed:

1/2-inch pipe

2 90-degree elbow

2 T-connectors

4 end caps

Tools Needed:

PVC cutter or saw

The holder is quite simple.

I make an inverted U with pipe and elbows that connect to the T’s on each side.

I then extended some legs from the T-connectors and added caps on the end.

The spool fits on nicely and spins freely.

If the size and weight of the spool is very large, then use larger pipe and fittings.

Upgrade your Lawn Mower Handle

The pull handle of my lawn mower was a little small, so I upgraded it.

I used a piece of 3/4 inch PVC that I cut to 4-inches long.

I drilled a hole into one side of the PVC, pushed the rope through the hole, and tied a knot.

It now fits in my hand much easier.

Laptop holder for your Bed or the Floor

Have you ever been in bed or laying on the floor and wanted to play on your laptop, but did not want to hold it up?

Here is a great way to use PVC to create a Laptop Holder.

The computer is held at a 90 degree angle just above your chest, so you can see the screen easily and still type freely.

Parts Needed:

- 1/2-inch PVC pipe

- 4 Elbows 90-degree

- 2 specialty 4-way connectors

- 2 T-connectors

- 2 45-degree connectors

- Zip ties or short bungee strap

Tools Needed:

- PVC cutter or saw

The top section of the holder will vary a little due to the width and height of your laptop.

But you want the width to be a little thinner than the computer.

The top uses 2 elbows to create a rectangle.

The bottom of the rectangle is completed using the specialty 4-way connectors.

The front two holes of the 4-ways are used to hold the laptop, so you need to add the remaining elbows facing upward.

The bottom of the 4-way connects to the 45 degree connectors facing outward.

A small stretch of pipe extends to the T-connectors to create some legs.

The laptop is held on with some zip ties to keep it in place.

If you prefer, you can also use a small bungee strap to hold the computer.

This is a great project for those who are confined to a bed for a short time.

Boat Pusher

If you have ever had a boat, then you know it sometimes gets stuck on the bottom of the lake.

If you use a piece of 1-inch PVC pipe, it can be a great push bar.

But here are some upgrades.

First add a T-connector to one end for a better hand grip.

Then add end caps to all of the ends.

This should allow it to float if you drop it in the water.

Hide Floor Wiring

If you still have wiring running along the floor, you know it gets in the way sometimes.

Or your animals like to play with it. Or you hit it with the vacuum.

If you use a piece of PVC pipe, you can now keep it covered and out of the way.

You can also paint it to match the base board or carpet.

Protect your Glasses on a Hiking Trip

If you ever go on an extended hiking or hunting trip, it is sometimes good to take an extra pair of glasses.

But the standard glasses case is just not good enough for all of that banging around in your backpack.

Instead use a piece of 1.5-inch PVC pipe with end caps to keep your glasses safe.

You will want to wrap your glasses in some cloth before putting them in the pipe.

You can also store some extra stuff in the pipe as well.
