Recently I received a parcel from my friend Dushyant, which had some 608zz bearings. He asked to make one on my 3D Printer. So I got this opportunity, perfect to test my skills on fusion 360 which I learned from Instructables classes.

what is Fidget?

A fidget spinner is a type of stress-relieving toy. ... The toy has been advertised as helping people who have trouble focusing or fidgeting by acting as a release mechanism for nervous energy or stress.

Btw guys I recently crossed 1 Million views so to celebrate I am giving away some prizes do watch the video to know more about it. I am doing a giveaway there.

Lets Get the Part

Stock bearing comes with grease in it to make the motion smoother, but it is undesirable when it comes to making a fidget, now when you will go to buy bearing you get three type in common

  • Without seal
  • Rubber seal
  • Metal Seal

The rubber seal is easy to remove and degrease or lube it . The problem comes with the metal seal which is non-removable. To remove the metal seal all you need is a multi-knife. Take the knife and punch near the inner diameter. Once there is a hole keep the pressure on it and take out the metal seal. This process will only remove the seal and won't damage the ball bearings.

I would highly recommend wearing a cut resistant gloves when working with the knife as it can lead to injury if handled incorrectly.

Remove the Grease

Once you get access to the bearing, the next work will be to actually to remove the grease inside the bearing .
I found there are several ways to remove the grease.
you can use rubbing alcohol to remove the grease some uses kerosene or turpentine oil instead of isopropyl alcohol.
What I found best was to use is liquid soap solution.I prepare first the hot water and then mix with the liquid soap.
This Solution is a kickass for removing the grease.

Scrub the Grease Off

After keeping the bearing in the soapy warm water, I then use an old brush to scrub the remaining grease off the balls. You would like to spend around some time in doing it as it will help you get the most rotation time for ur fidget.
I scrub it clockwise and anti-clockwise to get the best result.

After finishing the process take some tissue and then dry the bearings.Drying is an important step before the next step.you can also use a hair dryer also.

Apply WD 40

After completing the previous step, now we can apply some WD 40, WD 40 Helps in making the parts move loosely and also protect it from rust .I have found this increase the time of rotation of the fidget. Apply a gentle coat of WD 40 and let it sit around for some minutes. Wipe the excess with a tissue paper.

Designing the Fidget

I started Firstly by taking the measurement of the outer diameter and the inner diameter.Taking the both the dimensions I then Started Design the fidget in Fusion 360.To know more about the design, check out Instructables Classes on 3d Printing, they are the best.

Printing the Fidget

I printed the fidget on my Anet A8 with the following setting

Rafts:
No

Supports: No

Resolution: 0.2

Infill: 45%

Assembling the Bearing

This is the easiest step, all you need to do is to press the bearing in their holes. You can also apply some super glue to fix it permanently, my one fitted snugly inside the hole so I didn't need to apply the glue. ThenI press the finger pad and the fidget is ready for fun.

Thanks to Dushyanta for sending me the bearings to make the fidgets,
He had made his one out of plywood and 600zz bearings.
