Supplies
• Egg cartons (recycled cardboard or styrofoam)
• Small branches or twigs (for broomsticks)
• String or twine (for tying and hanging)
• White, black, and brown paint (optional for ghosts, hats, and brooms)
• Paintbrushes
• Scissors
• Glue gun or craft glue
• Black marker (for drawing ghost faces)
• Thin wire (fixing the broom)
Hanging Witches’ Hats
- Cut the Egg Carton: Use the cone-shaped parts of the egg carton (the pointy parts between the cups) to create witches’ hats. Trim the base if needed to make it even.
- Paint Black: Paint the cone-shaped hat black. Let it dry completely.
- Cut a Circle: Cut a small circle from the egg carton or black paper to form the brim of the hat.
- Glue the Cone: Attach the cone to the center of the circle using glue.
- Add String for Hanging: Use the hole in the top of the witch’s hat and thread a string through. Tie a knot to form a loop for hanging.
Hanging Ghosts
- Cut the Egg Carton: Use the cone-shaped parts of the egg carton (the pointy parts between the cups)
- Paint White: Paint each egg cup white and let them dry.
- Draw Faces: Use a black marker to draw spooky or silly ghost faces on the egg cups.
- Add String for Hanging: If there are holes in the egg cup, thread a piece of string through. If not, punch a small hole in the top. Tie the string inside the ghost and leave a loop at the top for hanging.
Hanging Witches’ Brooms
- Cut the Egg Carton: Use the cone-shaped parts of the egg carton (the pointy parts between the cups) and slit with scissors; cut strips from the egg carton. Make slits along one side of each strip to create a fringed look—this will form the broom’s bristles once stuffed into the pointy parts.
- Wrap the Bristles: Take your natural twig or stick from the forest. Stick it into the pointy part and then stuff the wraped the egg carton strip into it.
- Attach the Bristles to the Stick: Use a glue to secure the egg carton bristles to the stick, or use some wire to fix it together. Wrap it tightly for a fuller broom head.
- Paint Brown: Paint brown or mix a brown from available colors and let them dry.
- Add string for hanging: Fix the two ends of a string to the stick in in order to create a loop for hanging the broom.
Display Your Creation
Once all your brooms, witches’ hats, and ghosts are assembled and dry, hang them around your home, from the ceiling, or on a Halloween tree for a festive and spooky vibe! Enjoy.
